Jean-Antoine Watteau, better known by the name of Antoine Watteau (October 10, 1684 – July 18, 1721) is a French painter.His father is a roofer and tile merchant and his mother raises her four sons.<\/p>\n

Around the age of 10, he studies at a renowned painter in Valenciennes. Then he goes up to Paris in the Saint-Germain-des-Pr\u00e9s district where many Flemish artists live.<\/p>\n

He is one of the creators representing the rock movement. Inspired by the commedia dell’arte, he likes to represent the theater in his paintings, whether through heavy curtains or themes. In spite of a brief career of fifteen years, he was successful during his lifetime and left a considerable work, thousands of drawings and more than two hundred paintings that princes of Europe and private collectors tore away .<\/p>\n
