It’s his thing. Don’t talk to him about parties with friends; he hates them. He always rejects any social interaction. His father was like that, his mother too. In fact, it’s a miracle that these two met and conceived Eric. He’s an only child, of course. He would read for hours in his room during the day and go hunting with his family all night.

And then one day,
well, one evening, a lone gray wolf found himself on their hunting
ground. You’ve probably heard the expression “wrong place, wrong
time”? That’s exactly what happened. The wolf first approached
his father, weakened by arthritis. He couldn’t defend himself; even
his hard, swiveling spines weren’t enough to save his life. Then the
wolf, his yellow eyes sparkling in the dark, headed toward his
mother. Her mother, who had only one thing in mind: saving her son.
She ordered him to run as fast as possible to a safe place without
ever looking back. In the meantime, she sacrificed herself by luring
the hungry predator, presumably, in the opposite direction. Despite
her advanced age, she moves with precision and speed. She manages to
confuse the wolf, only for a short time, but enough to give her son
time to escape. Her last look, her last thoughts will be for him.

Eric arrives at his
parents’ house breathless, scared, bruised, and exhausted. Alone, at
the end of his life, he doesn’t realize what has just happened. And
yet the emptiness outside becomes inside. He is now alone in the
world. Since this tragic accident, or should I say this massacre,
Trevor has remained in his own corner. Very cautious, he no longer
strays far from home.

One evening, while he’s out hunting for food, he has an unexpected encounter. Another one like him… To be precise, it’s another lady one! She seems lost. She hesitates to approach him, then finally goes for it. She has nothing left to lose. She had just experienced an identical tragedy a few days earlier. She’s in tears.

Eric approaches her, comforts her as best he can.
