Amber is 10 years old today. For her birthday, her parents organized a mystery trip. They chose a city on a human scale, a place that makes you dream with its little houses of all colors, its canals…. They took the car to go to the Netherlands, to Amsterdam.

Amber is a wise little girl, very wise. And reasonable too, very reasonable. For the road, about 5 hours if all goes well, she took a book Warriors written by Erin Hunter, a magnificent story with cats, her favorite pet. Her parents take breaks, a little hot drink to warm up. And to have fun together, there’s nothing like singing their heads off 80s hits!

The destination is within sight. Amber, who has absolutely no knowledge of this country, is amazed. They park in front of their rental, about 10 minutes walk from the ferry which will take them to the grand central station and from there, they can go anywhere.

They have not planned a visit to museums, that will be for next time. They favored the spontaneity and desires of their only daughter. Amber can’t believe it. She is very moved and delighted to be there. So close to the sea, she thinks she is dreaming. She sets out to explore the city. She turns right, left. She is excited by the windows of the small shops in the Nine Streets district. For lunch, the little family chooses a restaurant that offers fabulous toasts.

Right next door, “Parisian”, a jewelry boutique that delights Amber and her mother. Of course, they push open the door and after a long visit, they come out with a pretty package each. Hey, a painting gallery. Oh, and what a nice surprise, some artists are French. This is an opportunity to get to know each other and become familiar with art.

As they take a bridge to get to the other side of the city, Amber is fascinated by an unusual object, attached to a lamp post. It’s a pink bike, decorated with pink artificial flowers as well. It’s love at first sight for the little girl. She stands right in front of it and is unable to move. She would really like to have the same one. What she doesn’t know is that it’s her birthday present…
