Acrylic on canvas – 12 x 9,5 inch – Unique work
Alone in front of the mirror, she tirelessly repeats the same movements since childhood. She has always wanted to dance. As a child, she watched The Nutcracker on television, her favorite ballet. Well, her mother’s!
Learning was difficult, a lot of work, a lot of suffering too, but so much pleasure and satisfaction at times. Her parents were against it, especially her father. To have fun, to keep busy on Wednesday afternoons, why not, but to make dancing your career, let’s be serious for two minutes. It’s completely ridiculous, you have to be gifted for it, and if that was your case, we would known.
Far from discouraging her, she felt she had wings. She invested herself wholeheartedly, even putting her body through the worst to achieve her goals. Finally, as a teenager, she was able to join the Paris Opera, a crowning achievement. An exceptional school where defeat was not an option. She worked hard on dance and all her school subjects as well. It was an integral part of the deal. Her father never came to a single one of her performances. Never! Her mother, meanwhile, not wanting to upset her husband too much, came secretly whenever she could.
She grew up, she progressed to the point of blood. She never regretted a single second of her life dedicated to her art. She joined a professional troupe. She traveled the world. She practiced classical dance, the best to learn, then branched out into contemporary dance, which was a perfect match to who she is, her search for freedom, for interpretation. She achieved her ultimate goal: to become a soloist within the troupe.
Then, she grew older, and little by little, her desire changed. She wanted to create her own, to teach. Sharing her passion with an audience of future professionals and amateurs changed her life. It’s very rewarding. Seeing students progress thanks to her, thanks to their perseverance too. It’s a team effort. You have to give in order to receive.
Alone in front of her mirror, she improvises new gestures, new steps to music she has chosen. She brings an emotion to life, responds to a specific theme, to a particular instruction she gives herself to go further, to please herself, to achieve the satisfaction of truly felt movement. To go all the way…
