Acrylic on canvas – 8 x 8 inch – Unique work

Animals hold a very special place in my heart, in my life. They are my life. I begin this artistic trilogy with the cat.

The cat, a fascinating animal. The first and only animal I’ve ever shared my life with. His name was Charly. He passed away on January 24, 2025. I lived with him for 18 years of simple, pure, and intense bliss. He has always been by my side, for better or for worse. The only living soul loving me unconditionally. A brief aside to talk about my daughter; a child’s love is unique.
I know he’s here with me, somewhere in this room where I’m writing this text, or in that other one where I painted this artwork. Unconsciously, I carved two cats with a knife. Do you see them?

One is blue, the other is white… But you can just as easily see something else… Or see nothing at all. That is the joy and complexity of abstraction. It is also freedom for each of us and finally the magic at the moment of its creation. I don’t think at all about what the drawing will give, I let my hand go with the chosen tools: brush, knife, …. I just choose the colors very great care.

Color… A huge topic. It’s what guides me. Since the beginning of my encounter with painting. Instinctively, I mix them together while hoping to achieve the perfect match. I either get it or I don’t! It’s very personal, like an « initiation » quest. And it also depends on the mood of the day. This is why it’s important to start and finish a painting on the same day, for abstract painting of course.

I talk and talk, well, I write and write, I digress … Let’s go back to the Cat !So, I turn my head to the left and there, right next to me on the couch, is 11-month-old Zoey! She lived with Charly for 7 months; they hit it off the second they met. Sometimes, I catch her staring blankly into a specific spot. And I tell myself that he’s here among us, his soul still protects me. It’s so good to know someone is watching over you. I’m so lucky.

Proud cat “parents” will understand this text; for the others, think about it when you come across a cat.
