Acrylic on canvas – 8 x 8 inch – Unique work

I love fireworks. I find them majestic. The atmosphere, the noise, the colors are all factors that take you on a journey through your mind.

I once happened to witness a fireworks display on a beach in Berck, northern France. It’s magical! There are no barriers at that moment. It’s just the sky and the horizon. Lying on the sand, eyes wide open, focused. I am spellbound by each explosion: a whistle and bam! For ten minutes, sometimes longer, nothing else exists. The people around are silent, patient, curious. Some make the mistake of coming with babies in strollers, crying, terrified children, dogs that tremble or escape. How reckless…

Another time, I was in front of the Château of Valençay. It’s completely different. The architecture magnifies the show. The music carries thoughts far away. It’s incredible how it blends perfectly with the various pyrotechnic figures. There, I feel transported back in time. To the time of princes and especially princesses with their beautiful dresses! I see myself walking delicately along the paths lined with rose bushes and hundred-year-old trees. Delighting in the scents and the freshness of the fresh air.

There was this time in Cannes too. Oh yeah, I almost forgot… I was 15! At the end of a dinner at Martinez restaurant and hotel, feet in the sand, the table at the end of the pontoon, it stood there before my amazed eyes. It was crazy. I don’t remember the menu at all, but the fireworks were breathless.

When I think back to my younger years, there were also those country fireworks displays set off by our fireworks expert neighbor, followed by the July 14th ball in a village near Auxerre… A whole good-natured world where everyone knows everyone else and is happy to meet up for a friendly drink.

And last but not least, the one from the year 2000. I was in Paris with friends. We found a pretty good spot that had a view of the Eiffel Tower, of course. My daughter was only 4 years old at the time. She ended up on the shoulders of an unknown acrobat who was next to us! An exceptional, unique moment. A “once in a lifetime” show for sure!
