Oil on canvas – 5 x 7 inch – Unique work
I’ve finally made up my mind, I’ll embrace my obsession.
The alarm rings, it’s D-Day… At last! A quick coffee and I’m off towards… Amsterdam!
I absolutely love this city. I can happily lose myself in it. I can wander for hours through the streets, discovering houses, each more beautiful than the last. I can stop on a bridge and watch the boats glide across the water. Ohhh, they all have a drink in their hands… Drinks on a boat… Yes! Next time, it’s in June, the date is set!
Amsterdam offers a new discovery in every season. In April, the tulip fields stretch as far as the eye can see. Endless rows of vibrant and pastel colors. You’re driving along a road and suddenly stop to stroll along the furrows. You might also spot hyacinths. Their fragrance is captivating. And throughout the city, street-side planters of multicolored tulips decorate the sidewalks. A feast of tulips awaits you.
In September, once the intense heat has passed and tourists have thinned out, the streets teem with bicycles and people eager to get ready for the start of the new school year. Around 5 p.m., doors are opened, and it’s time for a glass of white wine on the doorstep overlooking the canals. The air is still mild, and the atmosphere remains festive. The bars are overflowing, the terraces are packed. Laughter rings out. The city is alive.
Then comes winter. November and December are magical months. It gets dark very early. Streetlights illuminate the Christmas decorations. The Festival of Lights brings magic to the canals throughout Amsterdam. Suddenly, a storm hits. The streets are empty, umbrellas are turned inside out, the temperatures are below freezing, and yet… how wonderful it is to be here. The snow begins to fall. It’s magnificent!
This time, it’s June. I don’t yet know what Amsterdam is like. What vibe awaits me? That will be the subject of a future post, and a future oil painting for an exhibition in 2027! I promise, I’ll share my experience: drinks on the canals, movies, evenings with friends, fleeting encounters with art lovers who give my paintings a second life around the world. Thank you so much for that!
