Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec (November 24, 1864 – September 9, 1901) is a French painter, drawer, lithographer, poster artist and illustrator.Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, son of Count Alphonse de Toulouse-Lautrec-Monfa and Adele Tapie de CĂ©leyran, cousins in the first degree, is born in one of the oldest noble families in France.
He has a happy childhood until the discovery in 1874 of a disease that affects the development of the bones, pycnodysostosis, a genetic disorder, due to the inbreeding of his parents. he will not exceed the size of 4.98 feet.
Yet a high school student, he wants to be an artist. He studies the painting in Paris. He gets to know Van Gogh.
Toulouse-Lautrec lives for his art. Painter of postimpressionism, illustrator of the Art Nouveau and remarkable lithographer, he draws the Parisian bohemian lifestyle at the end of the XIXe century, and more specifically his favourite quarter of Montmartre.
Alcoholic during his adult life, he mixes a drop of cognac with his daily absinthe, disregard of the conventions of the time.
Henri de Touloue Lautrec dies at the age of 36.
Despite a short life full of illness, the painter leaves behind him a huge legacy: 737 paintings, 275 watercolors, 369 lithographs (including posters) and around 5,000 drawings.
