Oil on cardboard – 8 x 8 inch – Unique work
It could start as a South Korean drama. A rich, handsome, smart man meets a rather ordinary young woman with a fiery temper.
Except that the romantic comedy takes place in Amsterdam, among the canals and the typical houses that rise up to the sky, half-crooked but magnificent. The man is on the terrace of a café, he is waiting…. A young woman runs across the street… Too fast and without paying attention. She is knocked down by a cyclist who does not even bother to stop but continues on his way, shouting.
The stranger jumps up and helps the injured young woman. She fainted. He revives her, takes off his jacket to put it under her neck and speaks to her softly. She regains consciousness. She tries to get up but is unable to. It is too early. She clings to him. He takes her in his arms and gently supports her. She has never felt so safe.
She raises her head, gazes into his. But she is blinded by the sun still too high. Even the two tall buildings in warm tones like embers aren’t high enough for her to stare at her good Samaritan as she pleases. She would have liked these few minutes to last a lifetime but… Here she is standing, just supported by the arm, very lightly. He gazes at her seriously, questioningly. He is probably worried.
She smiles at him, lowers her head, tells him as best she can that everything is fine. She tries to escape him but he holds her tighter now. He has no intention of giving up on her so easily. She staggers to the nearest chair and slowly catches her breath. He is still there. He says nothing, but his mere presence is enough.
The owner of the
cafe, who witnessed all the scene, brings her a glass of water and
asks her if something else would make her happy. She gladly accepts
the water but declines any other proposal. She is in shock. Why ? The
incident followed by the fall? Or the special attention of that
handsome man sitting next to her?
Then, the impossible
happens… Her savior’s cell phone rings. So he pulls it out of his
pocket, answers, gets up, and quickly walks away. The spell is
broken.
