Oil on cardboard – 8 x 8 inch – Unique work

He is Romeo and she is Juliet. They come from Verona and visit Paris for their honeymoon. They are gorgeous, they are young, they are happy.

As they enjoy a coffee and a croissant in a typical Parisian brasserie, they plan their last day in the French capital. For five days now, they have covered the main sites: Place de la Concorde, the Champs Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe; then the Louvre museum, finally a few rooms it’s so huge, the Orsay museum, on the other side, the boulevard Saint Germain. And also, at the very top of the Eiffel Tower, that day, the sky was exceptionally blue.

They got lost in the subway, in the streets that all look alike. Well, especially for them who have no sense of direction. But never mind, they discovered, at the bend of an alley, residences with private gardens of great beauty. They were literally under their spell. They will come back, that’s for sure. They didn’t have time to…

Here’s an idea, and if they went towards Les Halles, the Center Georges Pompidou. It’s not that far from their hotel and on this Saturday, crowded with people, they are looking forward to meeting a lot of people. As they approach the neighborhood, the tourists still outnumber the locals. Almost every country in the world is represented. What a blast.

To end the day, when they are sad, they pass, quite by chance, in front of a bridge they did not know. Yet they were right next door to it quite often. They make their way and they are surprised when they discover these thousands of padlocks hanging from the bars. They look at each other and have the same idea at the same time.

They run towards… They don’t really know but it is urgent, essential to find a padlock. It is impossible for them to leave Paris without… And by chance, again… So there, I stop everything to point out that chance does not exist, it’s a destiny, it’s a sign, a message from the universe … As you wish but look twice in the same day, obviously …

They choose a beautiful red padlock in the shape of a heart. They hang it together delicately, make a wish, kiss.

Romeo and Juliet are gorgeous and young and happy!
