Announcement of the Birth of Jesus: “The Annunciation”
In the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent by God into a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man named Joseph, from the house of David; and the name of the virgin was Mary. And, entering her house, he said: « Salutation, thou filled with grace! The Lord is with you. » Having heard she was troubled, and she wondered what this greeting might be about. And the angel said to her, « Don’t be afraid, Mary, for you have found grace with God. And you shall conceive and give birth to a son, and you shall call him by the name of Jesus. He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give him the throne of David his father, and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever and ever, and his kingdom shall have no end. »
