I got up this morning and you were there, in the back of my mind, melancholy. My childhood flashed before my eyes. Eventually, part of my childhood, a tiny, tiny part, moreover. I’d rather forget the rest of it. It was summer, I remember. In Scotland, such a rough country and warm too. The evenings, hidden in a corner of a cozy pub. The huge glasses of beer, the hot and alcoholic atmosphere of the locals. I was impressed by these raucous and rolling accents. I never catched a word but I loved listening. I was rocked by this unknown language.

This park means a lot to me. It’ all about my childhood. West of London, about 30 minutes from the center by tube, an area of 121 hectares, Kew Gardens is home to one of the largest collections of plants in the world, more than 30,000 species. Their herbarium follows the same logic with 7 million specimens. Founded in 1759 during the Victorian era, it has been listed since July 2003 on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

A Sunday morning

The sun has been up for a couple of hours now and the heat rushes imperceptibly through the living room window which has been mistakenly left opened. Sophie likes cooling the farmhouse every morning at dawn in the summer to keep the freshess of the night inside the sufocating southern rooms. And then as soon as the yellow star appears, she closes the shutters and all the openings.
